In the News: Police Chase on the Mountain

Fox 16 reported on a three juveniles that were breaking into vehicles in Emerald Mountain. It appears that the Shannon Hills Police were called after some homeowners noticed their vehicles being broken into on their security camera [Source]. The Shannon Hills Police then quickly located the suspects, as they were in the middle of stealing a truck. A chase between the suspects and the Shannon Hills Police was eventually ended in South Fork Ranch. All three suspects were caught and released into their parents custody. Nothing in the Fox 16 story indicated that the suspects were being charged for the recent string of thefts [Sources 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. Why Did the City of Shannon Hills Pay Mayor Kemp $5,000 for an Empty Lot?

The City of Shannon Hills purchasing land from the Mayor Mike Kemp does not have the greatest optics.  There was an obviously conflict of interest and to be open and transparent an extraordinary effort for public disclosure prior to the sale should have been made. To avoid this kind of issue, the City actually has a policy that requires extraordinary public notification if a member of the City Council or Mayor is purchasing property/equipment from the City [Source]. Technically this policy did not apply, since the City was the one making the purchase. Regardless if it is required or not a extraordinary public notification should have been the default.

I try to be as informed as I can when I vote. I am a big fan of the non-partisan breakdown of the state ballot issues that the UofA puts out each election (link). However, the lower you get on the ballot the hard is is to find information on the issues or candidates. To help everyone make an informed vote, I have asked the same eight questions of each of the Shannon Hills City Council candidates. I will update the below links as I get the other candidates responses.
